Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Carmelo on June 3rd, 2025
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
