Hiding Tells

Do you ever have that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the closest casino, to locate a great stakes casino game of Hold em, to sit at a Twenty-one table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I love to scratch it.
I also love to watch people today gamble. No two poker faces seem equal. When I wager I like to think I put on a poker face that is impenetrable. But I know I have particular personal habits. For 1, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I bet on poker or Twenty-one. And then I smoke. Except I chain smoke whether or not I am winning or losing, no matter whether I’ve a very good hand or bad.
I once bet within a weekly poker game. The casino game was always 5 card draw. There was a man who bet with us each week who often wore a hat. When he was given a beneficial hand, unconsciously, he would begin touching and betting with his hat. Pointless to say, he never won.
The greatest poker player I ever saw was a man who created much more actions and signals at a poker table than anybody I had ever seen. He was flawless in the way he dressed. Generally an high priced suit and tie, shoes shined and nails manicured. He was meticulous in this manner. And he was often brushing his pants or holding his hands or putting his chips in tidy little piles.
I use to study him for hours on end. I’d attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Choosing lint off his jacket- did this mean he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a very short pile – did this imply he had a great hand?
Many years later I bumped into him within a bar in Boston and we had a drink. I asked him if he were aware of all those actions he produced or if they were unconscious. He informed me that each and every individual thing he did at a poker table was intentional. He said that everyone is usually checking out everybody else’s poker face. They’re attempting to detect the the tell.
So his program was to give them lots to believe about. His reasoning was if they have been thinking about him selecting a piece of lint off his shirt and what it meant they positive weren’t thinking about their cards.
His technique was diversion. And it worked for him. In no way give up a technique that works for you.
