Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
