Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Carmelo on Saturday, June 11th, 2022
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
