The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would frequently wager against one another. Howard was able to access a number of the best minds in chess. He also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in cash games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
